Every hour of every day, two Americans under [the age of] 20 are infected
with HIV, and a lot of girls are contracting it - not from one-night
stands but from longer relationships [where the boy was not honest
about, or unaware of his condition]. (Booth, S. 1999)
Nationwide, there are an estimated 20,000 infected children and teenagers,
including those with full-blown AIDS, born to infected mothers, according
to health officials. The officials also say that between 2,000 and
5,000 of these children are getting old enough to have their own children.
